As you think, you travel. As you love, you attract. You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you. You cannot escape the results of your thoughts; but you can endure and learn, accept and be glad. You will realize the vision of your heart, not the idle wish. You will gravitate toward that which you secretly most love. Into your hands will be placed the exact result of your thoughts; you will receive that which you earn; no more, no less. Whatever your present environment may be, you will fall, remain, or rise with your thoughts, your vision--your ideal.
As the father of two children below the age of 12, I'm sickened by what I've read in the Internet Watch Foundation’s (IWF) 2011 Annual Report. The report, released this morning, details how pedophiles are successfully hiding the evil they do online.
From the summary of the report posted on the IWF site:
Criminals are ‘disguising’ websites to appear as if they host only legal content. However, if an internet user follows a predetermined digital path which leads them to the website, they will see images and videos of children being sexually abused. This trend has been identified by analysts at the IWF who are experts at tracking and tracing child sexual abuse content. During 2011 this technique was seen nearly 600 times.
Chief Executive Susie Hargreaves said: “We received reports to our Hotline by online users who have stumbled across these sites. They pose challenges because when the website is accessed directly, only legal content appears. However, the reports we receive by the public can be quite detailed and these reporters were sure of what they had seen. Our analysts investigated further and discovered a legitimate web development technique was being used to disguise the website from all those who had not followed a particular digital path to access it. Clearly, ordinary online users had still found this content and we’ve been working with analysts in our sister Hotlines and with our Members to tackle this issue.”
This legitimate web development technique is commonly used, for example, on shopping websites. There are several reasons why this method is used. Firstly, it masks the criminal website from those who have not followed the correct digital path. Secondly, it means that a commercial child sexual abuse business may be able to acquire legitimate business services if the website appears to host legal content when accessed directly – essentially tricking companies into providing their services for what is actually a criminal enterprise.
Sophos senior technology consultant Graham Cluley wrote about the report in the vendor's popular"Naked Security" blog, saying, "From time to time SophosLabs encounters website content and images in spam which are extremely disturbing, and where appropriate we report these to the IWF."
Cluley threw in this quote from Mark Harris, VP of SophosLabs and Global Engineering Operations at Sophos: "It's vitally important to invest in combating the inventiveness of child abusers. We intercept new methods of distributing images of abuse all too often, and we're committed to reporting all instances to the authorities that identify perpetrators and rescue victims."
I've seen how child predators use the Internet to feed their cravings. A guy I went to school with surfaced on Facebook a couple years ago. He friended me and it didn't take long to see that he was friending a lot of young girls from around the world, telling them how pretty they were and encouraging them to contact him offline. These were 13-14-15 and 16-year-old girls.
He was ultimately reported to Facebook and removed from the social networking site. It turned out he was a thrice-convicted pedophile.
That and the IWF report just goes to show that we can never be too vigilant in protecting our children online.

Stay true to all your beliefs and goals. Stand tall. Through all life's setbacks and disappointments, your dreams will come true.

Were you in an odd situation, wherein you need to rush your work, come to your computer for the rescue but your computer does not cooperate? Well, stop wondering why all of a sudden your computer takes so long to respond, five to ten seconds per action and all that come to your mind is to punch it to respond faster. Here, I have enumerated some tips to make your computer run faster:
1. Free up disk space by deleting unwanted files and programs. When you are close to the limit of your hardisk, maybe it is time for you to delete some unwanted files. Programs consume space so uninstall programs or software that you no longer use and unnecessary.
2. Delete hidden or temporary files. Try to delete the files from temporary folder, which can be accessed by typing temp in start>run command, then select all files and delete. You can also remove items from the Windows Explorer temporary directory and the recycle bin. You can use Disk Cleanup under System Tools also.
3. Avoid opening programs simultaneously. Computers can slow down when you are pushing to the limit your processor, RAM etc. It happens very easily if you run too many programs at once.
4. Remove spyware and scan your computer from viruses. Spyware and viruses can slow down your computer. Always update your antivirus and scan your files from time to time. Having no antivirus program, your computer can be infected with lots of spywares, trojans, and unwanted programs. Spyware collects personal information without letting you know. These viruses can use your system resources such as CPU, RAM, memory, and can definitely slow down your computer.
5. Disable Start-up Programs. You can speed up your computer’s boot time by cutting out startup items in Windows. When starting your computer, Windows is not the only program that is loaded. There are icons and certain programs such as program updates etc. Some applications begin running silently in the background every start up, thus consuming system memory and can slow down your computer’s performance.
6. Use Disk Defragmenter Utility. Defrag your hard drive and clean up all of the loose information on it. The tidier your drive the quicker the machine can access the data. Now this will speed up search and load times but won’t increase any speed for gaming or any heavy applications.
7. Protect your computer from dust. Dust causes the CPU cooling fan to jam and slow down thereby gradually heating your CPU and affecting the processing speed. Use compressed air to blow out any dust from the CPU. Dust full computer produce more heats and may cause damage to the system components.
8. Reinstall your operating system. If you have done all the tips indicated above and your computer does not become more responsive, you might consider reinstalling the operating system and programs. Don’t forget to backup all your data. Format your hard drive to be clean and re-install the operating system with your original disks. You now have a new system free from with registry errors, and software that causes your computer to slow down. Don’t forget to install your antivirus.
9. Upgrade your memory. You have run through the tips above, defragged your hard drive, etc. but you still want to improve your computers performance. Then try to upgrade your system memory. Adding more system memory has a significant boosts in your computer’s system’s performance. Check first what compatible memory you should install.
Computers are a bit crazy sometimes and it's a good thing that they can still be tweaked for them to run faster. Just a bit patience and your computer can be faster that what you think.

In this excerpt of Chapter 2 from ISACA's Cybercrime: Incident Response and Digital Forensics, author Robert Schperberg looks at the benefits of instituting an incident response process.
Today, global organizations rely on the Internet, VPNs, WANs and LANs to conduct their day-to-day business. Many global organizations rely on e-commerce to produce revenue.
Skeptics ask: Why the need for the elaborate processes, and why spend money on building a program that does not contribute to the bottom line? The answer to this question is provided by a sample of activities that take place in the cyberenvironment, reinforcing the need to create a cyber-response program to investigate cyberattacks and cyberfraud, and conduct digital forensics evidence recovery and analysis.
In 2005, one in five enterprises is expected to experience a serious Internet security incident targeting information and intellectual property, Gartner analysts predict. Of all future attacks, nearly one in three will be financially or politically motivated, according to Richard Hunter, a Gartner vice president and research director. Cybercriminals are taking advantage of users, enterprises and unsecured systems to usher in high-profit, low-overhead crimes.

Incident response is a vital part of any successful IT program. It is frequently overlooked until a major security breach occurs, resulting in untold amounts of unnecessary time and money spent, not to mention the stress associated with responding to a crisis. Potential risks that could occur as a result of any cybercrime incident include:
A solid incident response program can save an organization a substantial amount of money and a significant degree of embarrassment. The following are generally cited as business drivers of implementing security programs to combat cybercrime, thus enabling executive management to improve the ROI of implementing incident response programs and use digital forensics:
When a professional incident response team is deployed for a problem, it can significantly reduce the monetary loss and embarrassment the organization could suffer. The team determines, usually in a short time, the answers to the following questions:

It is useless to try to change your outer world unless you first change your inner world. If you attempt to make external changes before doing the necessary inner transformation, the outer world will just keep repeating the same pattern. The movie Groundhog Day illustrates a very entertaining lesson in how we keep re-creating the same situation over and over again until we change our mind. The moment our attitude shifts, so does the situation.
